The second half of the day was looking at chiasms in the Book of Isaiah.

There are 66 chapters and there are themes that compliment one an other on each side of the division of chapters.

For example:

Ruin (Isaiah 1-5) & Rebirth (Isaiah 34-35)
Rebellion (Isaiah 6-8) & Compliance (36-40)

There are 7 of these themes!

It looks like the cycles in the BOM to me! When I see the "ladder" described above of the levels of righteousness, it reminds me of the Plan of Salvation! Isaiah has it all!

He also showed the structure (patterns) for:
The Servant- tyrant Parallelism
Trouble at Home, Exile Abroad, Happy Homecoming
Apostasy, Judgement, Restoration, Salvation
Covenant Curses, Covenant Blessings
Destruction of the Wicked, Deliverance of the Righteous, Intercession of a Righteous Davidic King.
Finally, Chiastic Chaos/Creation Pattern (using one side of the chapters, then the other to show the opposite).

I came to the conclusion that these Chiasms were done intentionally as to confound those who try to taint or corrupt the Book of Isaiah. If you changed any of the content, it would not follow the pattern! You would know it was corrupted/changed!

One of the things that I learned is that Isaiah LAYERS everything! Avraham had us break into groups to discuss what else a particular verse could mean other than the obvious. I found it very profound as well as rather dizzying. Isaiah is amazing! I have a LOT to learn.

I've got a question and I need some help! I've always been taught that even the sons of Perdition who were born will be resurrected. Mormon Doctrine clearly says so also. I had understood that Cain would rule over Satan because he had a resurrected body and Satan did not. But, when I went back and reread section 88, it appears to affirmatively state that they will not be resurrected. What am I missing?

@David, I was surprised at Isaiah's descriptions too. However, it does back up other things about Perdition that I have been reading. Especially in Revelation where it says they will be cast down to the pit at the end of the Millennium (not resurrected).

Revelation 20:6-10
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

_____________I should add__________Rev 21:8__________

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

My wife pointed this out to me for consideration...
DC 76:39 all the rest shall be brought forth by the resurrection of the dead

George Q. Cannon

In many minds there has been a great misapprehension on the question of the resurrection. Some have had the idea, and have taught it, that the sons of perdition will not be resurrected at all. They base this idea, and draw this conclusion, from the 38th and 39th paragraphs of Section 76 of the book of Doctrine and Covenants. . . .

A careful reading of these verses, however, and especially of the preceding paragraphs, will show that the Lord does not, in this language, exclude even the sons of perdition from the resurrection. It is plain that the intention is to refer to them explicitly as the only ones on whom the second death shall have any power: "for all the rest shall be brought forth by the resurrection of the dead, through the triumph and the glory of the Lamb." This excluded class are the only ones on whom the second death shall have any power, and "the only ones who shall not be redeemed in the due time of the Lord after the sufferings of his wrath."

This is by no means to say that they are to have no resurrection. Jesus our Lord and Savior died for all, and all will be resurrected-good and bad, white and black, people of every race, whether sinners or not; and no matter how great their sins may be, the resurrection of their bodies is sure. (Roy W. Doxey, comp., Latter-day Prophets and the Doctrine and Covenants [Salt], 2: 445 - 446.)
